Mrs. Olubukola Oyenike Salami was the Director of ‘Office of the Public Defender’ (OPD), the Lagos State Ministry of Justice from the Period of 4th July 2916 till March 2018. She was recently appointed as Executive Secretary Judicial Service Commission in April 2018.

Amongst other legal experiences garnered by reason of her having worked in different departments in the Ministry of Justice for over twenty-four years now, Mrs. Salami’s work experience exposed her to matters relating to children, women and the vulnerable generally. This work experience has tremendously horned her skills on issues concerning this group of people in our society and she has passionately carried out her official responsibilities, both in the advocacy and litigation for the rights of the various classes of this group of people to the very best of her ability.

Mrs. Salami is a strategic advisor, fearless advocate and has featured as a speaker at many seminars on various topics relating to alternative dispute resolution, gender issues, domestic violence, sexual abuse, and child abuse; these different fora she delivered well-received papers that were applauded.

Mrs. Olubukola Salami holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Political Science, University of Lagos (1986), Bachelor of Laws degree, Lagos State University (1990) and a Master’s degree in Law, University of Ibadan (2008). She was called to the Nigerian Bar in 1991 as a Barrister and Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Nigeria. She is a member of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) and also a member of the International Bar Association (IBA). Mrs. Salami is a registered member of the Centre for Effective Dispute Resolution (CEDR), United Kingdom. She is also an Associate Member of the Institute of Chartered Mediators and Conciliators (ICMC).

Mrs. Salami’s Service in other departments of the Ministry of Justice where she worked has also greatly impacted her efficiency as counsel. Mrs. Olubukola Salami has been and not limited to courses on provision of Legal Aid for Children in Conflict with the law in Lagos State, which project course was organized in collaboration with the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) and a Certificated Course on Domestic Violence, organized by the National Women Development Center, Abuja.

As Director, OPD, Mrs. Salami in the course of her Tenure with the able support of Mr. Adeniji Kazeem, Honourable Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Lagos State brought Faculty Members from National Institute of Advocacy Training Colorado, United States of America, to Nigeria, to organize training on Advocacy Skills which held for the first time in Sub-Saharan Africa in November 2016 and also recently in November 2017.
Mrs. Salami Coordinated The sustainable Programme on children in conflict with the Law, a sponsored project of UNICEF.

By virtue of her occupying the office of the Director OPD, Mrs. Salami was also a member of the Domestic and Sexual Violence Response Team, Lagos State.
Presently Mrs. Salami is the Executive Secretary, Lagos State Judicial Service Commission.
